Make sure your strengths match the criteria

I have just been giving job interview coaching to a client and I am so glad I have, as he totally undersold himself, yet he had great skills.

Here is something I strongly pointed out to him:

When you are putting together the opening statement of strengths on your application or describing them in your interview, always match them to the most important aspects of the job description and criteria. Do not mention irrelevant strengths.

I keep seeing people going for high-level jobs mentioning they are good at things like Excel or Word. Who cares, if the organisation is actually wanting someone who can handle cross-agency conflict or the ability to lead people to meet the strategic vision.

Make sure your strengths match the criteria!

Win that job.

Blessings

Rachel
